Earthrise

"Earthrise" is a song by British progressive metal band Haken. It is the sixth song from the band's 2016 album Affinity.

Following the album's April 2016 release, the song would recieve a music video on 9 May 2016.

Basis

NOTE: Some of the following may fall into the realm of fan speculation. The band has left much of the song's meaning unclear.

Earthrise covers themes of existentialism, free will and humanity's goal to survive. The song likely follows a triumphant humanity following the success of the launch of the Affinity satellite just before the incoming expansion of the sun and the chaos it brings, detailed further in "Red Giant" and "The Endless Knot."

Trivia

  • Along with "Lapse", "Earthrise" is the one of the only two non-Singles to recieve an official music video.
  • The line "And with baited breath we wait for Generation X to fade" likely implies that Affinity takes place (at least in part) between the 2040s and 2060s.
